DiP-PhosFect

Sustainable production technologies for improved, phospholipid-based transfection reagents.

Project description

In the “PhosFect” project, waste lecithins from vegetable oil and biodiesel production are to be upgraded to high-quality medical products.
The plan is to use computer-based screening to develop transfection agents that are suitable for use in mRNA vaccination.
These should offer application-technically improved alternatives to classic vaccine adjuvants used during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Goals

The aim of the project is to develop a sustainable biotechnological production chain for these compounds and to determine the spectrum of activity of the substance class with regard to commercial use.
